Happy Thanksgiving! It’s an extra special one here; permit me to explain.

On June 29, I had my overdue colonoscopy. My surgeon discovered 2 tumors, a benign one the size of a tennis ball and another, 5cm long, lining part of my large intestine that was precancerous.
He immediately extracted the tennis ball. Two weeks ago, he removed 1/3 of my large intestine and the attached appendix. Another surgeon pulled my gallbladder, which was discovered to be in rough shape during pre-op blood testing.
Pathology says the tumor remained precancerous, and it was fully extracted (margins were clear). The surgeon says I’m a very, very fortunate guy to have had it removed in time.
After a little over 30 years away, the nasty news and politics of the day led me back to my teenage hobby, comics, in late ’19. Not only was I a voracious reader in the mid/late 80’s, I was a small press/fanzine publisher, too. I returned to publishing as well, resurrecting my characters. Let me tell you, the escape of comics has been invaluable in managing the existential stress of having a ticking time bomb in your body.
Folks, get that colonoscopy when the doc tells you to. You never know what they will find.
As for me, this is a very blessed Thanksgiving. I’m here, I’m recovering and I get to read and make comics. What more can a guy ask for?
